STORE LAMBS, MULE AND TEXEL GIMMERS

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas on Saturday 29th August 2020 held their annual sale of Scotch Mule gimmers and store lambs with a total of 3399 sheep forward

With a full ringside and buyers socially distanced in the pens it did nothing to hamper the trade, with trade being on fire from the first pen of stock ewes in the ring to the last pen.  At our annual show we must thank Mr Neil Shuttleworth, Drumburn, Kirkbean and also to sponsors Davidson Animal Feeds.  Champion pen today was a pen from Messrs McKie, Finniness, Balmaghie selling at £205 to the Judge with reserve champion pen being from Messrs Wallace, Mains of Collin, Auchencairn which made £202 also to the Judge.  Topping today though was a pen of 37 from Messrs Graham, Coatston at £208.

Overall 1775 Scotch Mule Gimmers averaged £179.73, with 1142 Members gimmers averaging £181.80 and 633 non-members averaging £176.01.  110 Texel gimmers averaged £176.13 and 59 stock ewes from Messrs Kirk, Hall of Drumpark topped at £165 for a pen of 1 crop Scotch Mules and averaged £154.78.

1455 Store lambs were a phenomenal trade selling to a top of £95 for Texels from Messrs Wilson, Screel, with Beltex from Messrs McCulloch selling to £94.  Blackface topped at a staggering £73.50 from Slatehouse. An overall average of £70.82 for everything sold was achieved with many more required at our next sale on Monday 14th September.  Any breed, any size we can sell to our ever increasing ringside of buyers.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited Monday 31st August 2020 continued on from Saturdays phenomenal sale with another record breaking trade when they sold 7140 Scotch Mule ewe lambs.

 

At the pre sale show, sponsored by Solway Agriculture, the Judge Mr D Parrish, Hassendeanburn, Hawick awarded the Champion rosette to Messrs McKie, Finniness, Balmaghie which fetched £155 to Messrs Guild, Laight, New Cumnock.  Reserve this year was Messrs Hamilton, Marr, Thornhill which sold for £152 to the judge.  Overall lambs were looking a picture and credit must go to the vendors who were well rewarded for their sterling efforts with averages being up a staggering £28.53 to average £121.35 for the 7140.
