The JMB Creatives (Moat Brae’s new Youth Forum) held a special event at Theatre Royal, Dumfries on Saturday 5th August to sign up new members and celebrate the town’s connections to the story of Peter Pan.
They welcomed families and young people as part of YouthBeatz Fringe and signed up new young members who will now help to develop activities and plans for Moat Brae which will open as a National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling at the end of 2018.
Guests were treated to mocktails and croctails, including Hook’s Fury, Pan’s Punch, Tinker Bell’s Tonic and Wendy’s Wonderbrew. They set sail through storms and calm seas on the Jolly Roger – a 3D digitally projected pirate ship created by Purple Box Productions and played with reversed shadows and mermaid bubbles. Live music was provided by Alana Currie, Elia Davidson and Emily McLatchie of The Music Room and Maeve Reekie gave a Discover Your Inner Mermaid makeup demonstration. The Peter Pan-themed photobooth proved a great success as young guests enjoyed dressing up and creating new characters with hats, hooks, swords and fairy wings from the Theatre’s extensive props department.
The event was organised by JMB Creatives Caitlin McKie, Smriti Raruri, Charlotte Green and Jessica Lee who were supported by members of staff and volunteers from the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust.
Caitlin McGauchy, aged 11 said “it’s been a really good night and I wish we could do it more often. It was really good and the volunteers are really kind”.
