Traditional Scottish band, the Tannahill Weavers, are coming to perform at the Old Well Theatre, Moffat this September.
The band started out in Paisley, practising in a bedroom, and nearly fifty years later are inductees of the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame. Over the years they have supported Billy Connolly and Dire Straits, seen many members come and go (including Dougie MacLean), and have played all over the world, being especially popular in America. Their name is a tribute to Robert Tannahill, the 18th century Paisley poet, songwriter and weaver, whose songs they include in their repertoire.
The band has always been a great champion of Scottish music, and consists of Roy Gullane on guitar and vocals, Phil Smillie on flute, whistles, bodhran and vocals, John Martin on fiddle and vocals, and Lorne MacDougall on Highland bagpipes, Scottish small pipes and whistles.
Tickets for an evening of good music and great humour are available from Moffat TIC on the High Street or 01683 221210. The concert takes place on Friday, 8th September, 7.30 start.
