15 YEAR OLD SOLWAY SHARKS LASS BIDS FOR GB GLORY

Great Britain Under-18 Women’s Ice Hockey coach Cheryl Smith has named local Solway Juniors player 15 year old Megan Gourlay in her squad of 20 for next month’s four-team international tournament in Granada.

GB will face Spain, Hungary and Poland in the Four Nations Women’s U18 International Tournament being held in the Igloo Granada Ice Arena, Spain, in a competition that will run from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th November 2017.

“We have some good foundations to work with and we are starting to see the team develop in units rather than individuals.  Overall, the coaching staff like what we are seeing and this is all preparation for January’s World Championship”, said Smith.

Solway Juniors head coach Martin Grubb commented, “This is a fantastic achievement for Megan, and a great reflection on the local club.  After playing for only two seasons Megan has reached the highest standard possible in making the GB team.  This is a testament to all the hard work she puts in on and off the ice, and to her positive attitude.  I am sure she will do very well in Spain, and we all wish her and the rest of the GB team every success.”
Solway Club chair Leanne Thomson said, “Everyone at the club is extremely proud of Megan.  She trains hard and plays well for her club, and has competed against the best female players in the country to earn her place in the GB squad.  She should be very proud of herself, and I know how honoured she will be to pull on the national team shirt.  We all wish her well as she heads to Spain.”
