LOCAL MSP SIGNS UP TO SUPPORT SCOTTISH TOURISM WEEK
Dumfriesshire MSP Elaine Murray has thrown her support behind Scottish Tourism Week which started this Monday (10 March 2014).
Scottish Tourism Week is organized by the industry’s lead organisation, the Scottish Tourism Alliance. The aim of the week is to give tourism businesses from all over Scotland a chance network and engage with one another and find the best way to boost the tourist industry.
Commenting on the week, Dr Murray said:
“Tourism plays a key role in our local economy with a number of hotels and tourist attractions across the region. I welcome a week in which businesses comes together to discuss how to boost the industry. “
“Going forward, I think the priority will be to make sure that any growth in the industry is sustainable, that the image of Scotland that goes out is attractive and that we give people a good experience and that people want to come back in future years.”
“This, together with the film industry’s use of the spectacular locations available to film crews in Scotland bodes well for Scottish tourism. I am also conscious that the vast majority of our tourists come from England, which serves to highlight the strong cultural links and connections that we have, and want to maintain and strengthen, with those living south of the border.”
