Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright Primary Youth Speaks Competition

On Thursday 24 November, eleven primary pupils from the local area met in Kirkcudbright Primary School to compete in the Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright Primary Youth Speaks competition.

The evening was presented by Rotarians Jean McKnight and Louise Finch.

The competitors were tasked to talk for four minutes on any subject of their choice, assisted by IT if they wished.

Judging was by a three-person panel, Rotarian Gordon Cowan a retired lawyer, Hanna Gill current music teacher at the Academy and Jean Ingram a member of Inner Wheel and retired primary teacher.

Judging was by no means easy but eventually, it was revealed.

First was Jerry McLauglim-Clear with his talk about chickens and his affection for them.

Murdo Shaw came second and spoke about his grandfather’s experience as a fighter pilot and his wish to follow in his footsteps, or should that be vapour trail.

The most promising speaker was judged to be Phillippa Dale-Sunley.

All contestants had been selected from in-school competitions and thus earned their Participation Certificates. The Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright would like to thank all who played a part in what was a very enjoyable evening.
