Scottish Health Secretary Shona Robison will visit the region early in 2018.
Emma Harper MSP called for a ministerial meeting at Holyrood to discuss specific NHS D&G projects, including Galloway Community Hospital, the move to the New DGRI, and many other local important health issues.
The local MSP is knowledgeable about health care in Dumfries and Galloway as she is a nurse and former employee of NHS D&G.
A commitment was made by the Cabinet Secretary to visit both Dumfries and Stranraer after Emma personally invited her. Specific details will be prepared between now and early January.
Emma – who also sits on the Scottish Parliament’s Health and Sport committee – said:
“I had a positive meeting with the Cabinet Secretary and it was during this time that she accepted my invitation to visit and speak with people and see first hand the excellent work that the teams across NHS D&G do.
“Additionally, we will be able to discuss recruitment challenges that our region is experiencing and hear from the teams who are tackling these challenges by adopting new models of care.
“I look forward to the visit and welcome the Cabinet Secretary to our South West.
