Second Attempted Robbery On A Woman In Kirkcudbright

Police officers in Kirkcudbright are investigating a second attempted robbery in the town in a week. This time a 50 year old woman was the victim as she made her way home through a lane which runs between Barrhill Terrace and Kilndale Terrace in the town. The attack happened at around 2130 hours on Thursday 18 January 2018. As the woman was walking in the lane she was approached by a man who, as they passed, attempted to grab her handbag. The woman pulled bag and the attacker ran off, The only description of the attacker is that he was of skinny build, about 5’8″ tall and was wearing dark clothing. He was wearing a slightly padded jacket, and had a hood up from a dark top which he was wearing underneath.

Detective Sergeant Nadine Scott said “This is a rare type of crime for our area and to have two similar attacks in a week is even more unusual. We have been carrying out door to door enquiries and CCTV footage is being reviewed. I would ask anyone who was about the area on Thursday night to get in touch with us if they saw or heard anything suspicious. On each occasion the attacker appears to have taken hold of the bag, however has been unsuccessful when trying to make off with it. Police at Kirkcudbright can be contacted on the 101 number. Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Our patrols are focussed on keeping people safe and again anyone with any information can pass it on to officers when they see them out and about.”
