Drug Use In Public Toilets Not Acceptable Says Carson

Following a meeting with anxious business owners in Castle Douglas, Finlay Carson MSP has today written to the Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council, Councillor Elaine Murray, to express his concerns.  Finlay has also called on her to take immediate action.

Finlay Carson said: “It is completely unacceptable that drug activity of this nature is taking place in these busy public toilets.  These public conveniences are located next to the bus stop at the bottom end of King Street and are regularly used by families, residents and visitors to the town.

Finlay continued: “I met with business owners located adjacent to these toilets and was advised that they regularly witness drug users going in and out of the premises; they are worried for the safety of their own employees as well as the unsuspecting children, families and visitors who use these facilities.

I have asked Elaine Murray, Labour Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council, to do more to protect the public by installing UV lighting to these premises immediately.”
