NHS Dumfries & Galloway Thank 4×4 Volunteers For Help

Gratitude has been expressed to volunteers who provided 4×4 vehicles to help transport NHS staff to and from Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary in the wintry conditions.

Members of HM Coastguard, Nith Inshore Rescue, Ae 4×4 and Blood Bikes served as part of contingency plans to deal with the ongoing snowfall affecting driving conditions.
Staff nurse Caroline Armstrong from Gretna was one of those who was transported to and from work by the volunteers.

Speaking about her work, Caroline said: “It’s a 24-hour service, people’s lives are on the line, it’s not the sort of job where we can just say that we can’t come into work. People still need patient care, so nursing staff have to be able to provide that care – no matter what the weather conditions are like.”
On-Call General Manager Linda Williamson said: “We’re extremely grateful for the incredible support provided by these volunteers, helping us to ensure services continue running as normally as possible in very bad weather conditions.
“Our staff are very committed to their roles, so I speak on behalf of them when I thank all these volunteers for helping those facing the most challenging journeys to get to and from their work.”
