Moore’s Fish and Chip Shop, Castle Douglas Named One of the UK’s Top 50

Moore’s Fish and Chip Shop in Castle Douglas has been named as one of the UK’s 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways – the only chippy in Dumfries and Galloway and one of 4 in Scotland to make the prestigious list.

The accolade follows an extensive six month search by leading trade publication Fry Magazine to find those takeaways serving up the finest fish suppers.

To make the 50 Best, Moore’s had to impress a mystery diner who visited unannounced and marked the chippy on over 40 aspects of their business from the quality of the food and customer service to cleanliness and value for money.

With the pass mark set high at 96%, Moore’s scored an impressive 100% with the mystery diner particularly praising the standards of cleanliness, presentation, product range, product quality and service were the highest I have experienced in a chip shop. This business clearly operates to the highest of standards and takes great pride in sourcing its products.

The Mystery Diner also said:

“I cant speak highly enough of the standards and execution from this business”
“The fish was thick, moist, flaky and coated in the lightest, crispiest batter I have tasted.”
“The chips were crisp on the outside and beautifully light and fluffy on the inside.”

Andrew Moore, Owner of Moore’s, said: “It is the first Year we have entered this Competition and it is a great honor to make the 50 best and only one of 4 in Scotland.

We take great pride in our products from sourcing to preparing and cooking them and finally to how we present the product to the customer.

Reece Head, competition organiser, comments: “Reece Head, competition organiser, comments: “Once again we’ve got a fantastic list of fish and chip shops spanning the breadth of the UK who put their all into their business, their staff and their food.

But more importantly, they are giving their customers what they want – top quality food and great customer service in attractive, inviting surroundings. And that’s the key to a successful business and a successful future for fish and chips.”
