Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has stressed the importance of Oxfam’s work as he volunteered in their shop in Dumfries this week.
Despite recent controversies surrounding the charity, Mr Carson says that local people should support the charity’s efforts across the world, and praised the work of those who volunteer locally.
He met with manager Rory Fairweather and other volunteers at the Queensberry Street shop as he took part in a volunteering session.
Commenting Finlay Carson MSP said: “I was delighted to be able to take part in a volunteering session at Oxfam and learn more about the work that goes on in shops like this one in Dumfries.
“The volunteers are all so committed about their work and it is great to see so many people locally giving up their time to volunteer in the shop.
“While Oxfam may have faced controversy and rightful criticism recently, it cannot be understated about the important work that they carry out around the world, in supporting those living in the most extreme poverty.
“I would encourage people living across the region to show support for Oxfam’s work and if you have the time, I would really encourage you to volunteer in the shop, which I found a very rewarding experience.”
