After the recent cold and wet weather for many, the good news is that most of us will see warmer weather for the Bank Holiday weekend.
The changeable weather of the last week or so is being pushed northwards as an area of high pressure moves in from the southwest. This will bring a good deal of fine and dry weather for many of us from Friday and for the weekend.
Saturday and Sunday will be dry with sunny spells and warm in many parts of England and Wales although it may be rather misty around some coasts in the south and west. Scotland and Northern Ireland will be breezier and cooler, with some rain around.
By Bank Holiday Monday most of us will be seeing sunshine at times and it’ll be very warm with temperatures in the mid and perhaps high 20s Celsius.
Chris Bulmer, Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office said: “We can’t promise wall to wall sunshine for everyone this Bank Holiday weekend, however, it’s looking like a most of us will get to see some warm sunshine at times. Parts of Scotland and perhaps Northern Ireland will occasionally be cloudy with some rain, mainly in the west.
“The best of the sunshine and the highest temperatures this weekend are expected across England and Wales away from the coast. For Bank Holiday Monday itself it is possible that temperatures could be near record-breaking. We’ll keep you updated with the details over the next few days.”
With a very low risk of frost, outside of sheltered glens in Scotland, it looks like a good weekend for gardening. Guy Barter, is the RHS chief horticulturalist. He said: “So far this spring, weather conditions will have delayed some tasks in the garden.
“With a fine forecast for the three-day weekend across most of the UK, gardeners should feel excited they will have the time to invest in their gardens and also have time to spend relaxing with families and friends enjoying the fruits of their labours. A perfect end to National Gardening Week.”
