Prestwick CC 169/4 v Croma Vigilant Dumfries 168/7

Croma Vigilant Dumfries were on the road to Prestwick the 2017 Scotland Champions and were unable to bring home the points in a match which ended in defeat.
A journey to the national champions Prestwick is always tricky as they have a team full of Scotland international and a line up of spin bowlers ready to take aim. It was no surprise that theyb opened with the spin options, an immediately had the Croma Vigilant Dumfries batsmen in trouble. Early dismissals of Corbett-Byers and the overseas pair of Andrew Mascall and Jesse Smit saw the Dumfries team in trouble. However Croma Vigilant Dumfries have their own in form player in Scott Beveridge, who once again steadied the innings with Andrew Dawson. The pair managed to control the Prestwick attack, but when Dawson was caught, another mini collapse of wickets happened. it was captain Christopher McCutcheon and Beveridge who saw the innings to a close, with the later finishing on 59 not out. Croma Vigialnt Dumfries posted a total of 168 for Prestwick to chase.
Croma Vigilant Dumfries went out to bowl with the matchball sponsored by the Cumberland Building Society and Prestwick were out of the traps fast going hard at the deliveries from both Niall and Stuart Alexander . Runs were flowing until Stuart Alexander picked up two valuable wickets. This was followed by Smit and Armstrong joining the act and Prestwick had to change their approach to the game. The run rate slowed as they rebuilt their innings, however sensible batting from Scotland international Rao guided the Prestwick team home with 10 overs to spare.

Nunholm 340/7 v Anniesland 51 all out ( main Image)

Nunholm ran out comfortable winners against Anniesland by 289 runs, thanks to runs from Andrew Reed and wickets from Cameron Telfer. On a rare sunny day so far this spring Nunholm won the toss and chose to bat. Openers Patrick Corkery and Jeremy Goodin ran well between the wickets and got the home side off to a great start putting on 70 before the first wicket of Corkery fell.
Andrew Reed arrived at the crease and was welcomed with a full toss which he immediately dispatched for 4. Cameron Telfer joined Reed at the batting crease. Telfer having a difficult start with sharp turning balls for his first few overs, however the pair managed to establish a solid partnership putting on 140. Reed bought up his 50 and then later his 100 with confident pull shots to the boundary. Telfer departed soon after the second drinks break and this bought youngster James Little to the crease making his first senior appearance in League cricket. Reed eventually fell for 117 run out. Captain, James Cox, had a moment of amnesia as he was run out not going for a third. Some big hits later in the innings from Sam Thornley and Robert Huxtable bought up the 340.
Anniesland were always up against it to chase down such a high score, but it took a while for the Nunholm bowlers to make the break through with the macthball sponsored by Solway Insulation. It was a fine run out by Callum Reynolds-Lewis which started the wickets falling. Robert Huxtable dislodge the dangerous left hand bat with Leg Before Wicket. Cameron Telfer entered the fray with his off spin and picked up 3 wickets. Sean Thornley got his first senior wicket which was edge through to keeper Reed. The innings was finished off by Andrew Kyle who encouraged the batsman to edge to Goodin at slip. Annielsand collapsed to 51 all out.

Croma Vigilant Dumfries Sunday XI 196/7 v Penrith CC 147 all out

Croma Vigilant Dumfries Sunday XI were once again winners in the Eden Valley Sunday league as they beat Penrith at home. Another sunny day saw a wicket which favoured the batting and Patrick Corkery took full advantage as he provided an anchoring role for the majority of the innings, eventually falling for leg before wicket. The wickets early on began to fall around Corkery and when Mark Abnet joined him at the crease Croma Vigilant Dumfries were 33-3. A solid partnership followed, but when Abnett was bowled after drinks, Daniel Armstrong came to the wicket and began a dominant batting performance with two huge sixes. Danny went on to retire at 50 and it was left to Andrew Reed to guide the team to the close with 32 not out as Dumfries posted 196.
In reply Penrith got off to a flyer as the Penrith batsmen found boundaries easy to come by. The score was speeding along with 40 on the board in the first 5 overs. It was Hyder Hussein who put the brakes on the innings as he collected 3 wickets with some accurate swing and seam bowling. Penrith batsmen began to compose themselves again, and whilst the runs had dried up, they were also pleased that the wickets also slowed up. In steps Daniel Armstrong who bowled a combination of swing, and then a later spell of leg spin, picked up three wickets of his own. Andrew Reed also picked up 3 wickets and Max Corbett-Byerspicked up the other one.
Another victory for the Croma Vigilant Dumfries Sunday XI sees them topping the table going into week 4 with an away trip to Langholm this Sunday.
