Cup Win for Dumfries Under 13
Dumfries U13 121-5 v Langholm 49-5
Dumfries Thirteens, last night, were back on the road to Langholm – this time on cup business and again proved too strong for Langholm. The game was reduced to 16 overs per side in an effort to beat the rain. The rain did not win but the youngsters certainly got soaked!
Batting first the Dumfries innings was ultimately dominated by Max Corbett-Byers but the supporting cast was also impressive. Fergus Bainbridge dominated the opening partnership which was full of good running and good shots and Matthew McBurnie effectively put bat to ball. However Max was the star and it took a bizarre dismissal to deny him his half-century. Caught off a no-ball he half-stopped and allowed the catcher to run in and take the bails off to have him run-out!
In reply the Dumfries bowling and fielding was again of a high standard. The wickets were shared round but the highlights were Fergus Cubbon’s maiden victim and Aiden Goodin getting a wicket with a snick to first slip, both to the obvious delight of their teammates. However all the bowlers were impressive, bowling a better length than they have been.

Collapse Causes Concern
Uddingston CC 219-8 v Croma Vigilant Dumfries 116 all out
Croma Vigilant Dumfries lost to Uddingston after the batting line up were unable to support a good start. Croma Vigilant Dumfries travelled to Uddingston and on arrival it was clear that the wicket was going to suit a bat first decision. Christopher McCutcheon lost the toss and Dumfries were put into the field.
There was an early breakthrough and Niall Alexander got Allan caught by Christopher Bellwood, but the Uddingston batsmen began to dig in against aggressive and controlled bowling from the Dumfries attack. Changes in the field managed to create an opportunity and Dumfries finally made in roads into the Uddingston lineup which went from 148 for 2 down to 184 for 8. The tail dig wag for Uddingston as they finished on 219.
Croma Vigilant Dumfries in reply made a solid start with Andrew Dawson and Adam Malik taking the score to 44 before Malik was bowled. He was quickly followed by Dawson, who also saw his stumps knocked over. Edges and runout in the next few overs put the pressure on the Dumfries batsmen and they were unable to settle, a solid knock from captain McCutcheon at the end was not enough to see Dumfries limp to 116.
Batsmen are getting starts but failing to maintain their innings to put Croma Vigilant Dumfries into winning positions. The programme gets no easier for Dumfries as they host Top of the Table Ferguslie on Saturday.

League Leaders dominate at Nunholm
Nunholm 112 all out v Victoria 114-5
Victoria were the visitors at Nunholm on Saturday and they walked away with all the points as they crept over the line on a day when the bowlers dominated over the batsmen.
Nunholm knew that Victoria would be tough opposition and chose the bat when they won the toss. Things did not get off to a good start as Cox departed early. Jeremy Goodin, Cameron Telfer and Alan Davidson provided a solid base for the Dumfries team, but the change bowlers for Victoria made the breakthroughs. The batting collapse was temporarily halted when Andrew Kyle swung the willow, but it was in vain as Nunholm posted a disappointing 112 all out.
Victoria would have been confident of knocking off the total, however Alan Davidson had other ideas as he got 4 early wickets, this was followed up by Robert Huxtable joining the act and Victoria were in trouble with 70 on the board and 5 wickets down. There experienced batsmen of Chaudhry and Ahmed were able to control the tempo and take Victoria to victory. Nunholm stay firmly in mid table after this result and on target to achieve their aims for the 2018 season
