12 teams from Nithsdale primary’ schools participated in the Active Schools and Community Sport Fun5z Netball Festival at Maxwelltown High School.
More than 80 girls took part in this 5th annual netball tournament.
This year saw a development section introduced and it was a great success for new teams and coaches to learn from.
Dumfries Blue’s Netball club were present talent spotting and invited girls to attend their training.

Councillor Jeff Leaver, chair of the Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning [CYPLL] committee, said: “Providing the best start for all our children is a priority for our Council. I’m delighted to see opportunities for girls to participate together and how netball is growing across the region.”
Councillor Ros Surtees, vice chair, said: “Offering festivals and events like netball supports children to be healthy and active. It’s fantastic to see the number of girls participating in netball at this event and throughout the year in their netball leagues.”
A Council spokesman said: “Thanks are due to Andrea Haggerty for her support and coaching she provides throughout the year, to all the umpires who helped at the festival and to the volunteer coaches who run their clubs at their local schools. Without volunteers we wouldn’t be abel to have events such as this.
