LOCAL MSP ALEX FERGUSSON BACKS DALBEATTIE RIVER CLEAN-UP INITIATIVE

Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Alex Fergusson has given his backing to a community led initiative to clean up the Barr Burn that runs through the town. Following a meeting which he had convened between himself, DGHP, the Council and the Community Council, Mr Fergusson said:-

“Having seen photographs of the rubbish that has been taken out of the Barr Burn by one committed volunteer, David Widdowson, the extent of the problem is clear for all to see. Bicycle frames and wheels, car parts and even a flat screen TV were amongst the rubbish that has been removed, but an organised community effort is going to be required to really clean up what should be a great asset to the community. DGHP have agreed to publicise the mindless actions of those who dump these items in the river in the first place and the Community Council, working with the Dalbeattie Initiative, will organise and promote a community action day to get on top of this problem once and for all. The community river clean-up will have my full backing, and I commend the community for taking this action.”
