Once again, the River of Life Church in Dumfries is opening its doors wide on Christmas Day, bringing a free Christmas meal and celebration to everyone who would otherwise be alone or in need. This is the fourteenth successive Christmas the Church has staged it’s ‘Don’t be Alone’ event.
Pastor of the Church, Mark Smith, says, “Thanks to the generosity of individuls and organisations, we’re delighted to invite everyone to come together for a truly great Christmas – no one need miss out on the fun, food and festivities which others take forgranted. There’s a short exciting Christmas service from 11am to 12noon, then the highlight – full Christmas Day Dinner, with all the trimmings, with vegetarian options available from 1pm. Come to either or both – there’s no need to book – just come along – there’ll be plenty for everyone!
“Many find Christmas Day difficult for a multitude of reasons – lonliness, bereavement, lack of money etc., but there’s no need to miss out; we’d love you to join us on the big day!
“We’re especially grateful to the staff of SP Engergy Networks and the Dumfries Lions Club, who worked very hard to raise funds, which have made this possible. We’re also grateful to all the good people in our community who’ve given and those who will be coming to help on the day.
The day is being coordinated this year by Khandu Joseph and her family. Khandu hails from North India/Nepal and says, “I’m more familiar with curries than roasts, but I’ve got some super helpers, so some great festive food is guaranteed. More than anything, we guarantee a warm welcome to anyone and everyone on Christmas Day. We’ve got lots of presents for all ages too!”
Anyone who’d like to help out or support the event is very welcome to do so by contacting Mark Smith on 07710 111727.
