NHS Dumfries & Galloway announces the award of the contract for the upgrade to the Garroch roundabout in Dumfries.
Balfour Beatty has been selected from five firms to carry out the works that are essential for the £200 million reprovision of the Dumfries & Galloway district general hospital at the Garroch site in Dumfries.
Dennis O’Keeffe, Project Director for the new hospital in NHS Dumfries & Galloway said:
“The award of this contract represents another significant milestone and a key element in the delivery of the enabling works, in advance of the start of construction of the new hospital in early 2015.
“We will continue to engage with our stakeholders, and in particular with regard to the upgrade to theGarroch roundabout, we are working closely with the local council and police to ensure that the public areappropriately informed about traffic management arrangements.”
Hector MacAulay, Balfour Beatty Delivery Unit Managing Director, said:

Transport Minister Keith Brown said:
“I am delighted to see the contract for the upgrade to Garroch Roundabout awarded. These works, which are expected to be completed by the end of the year and allow the construction of the new hospital to getunderway early next year, will ensure vital traffic to and from the new complex can access the trunk road safely while avoiding disruption to through traffic on the A75.
“Not only will the delivery of the new hospital be welcomed by communities across Dumfries & Galloway – some £54 million of Scottish Government investment on the A75 since 2007 underscores our commitment to improve transport links in the area. Road users are now enjoying the benefits of the recently completed £17 million bypass at Dunragit, with further improvements coming on-line soon for the key route through Dumfries & Galloway.”
