54 year old Dumfries man Stewart Mitchell is in training to do the 85 Mile Caledonia Etape Cyle challenge to raise money for cancer charity, Marie Curie.
Stewart, a project Manager at University of Strathclyde in Glasgow is first to admit he is no lightweight, so he is now staying of the booze and cycling every weekend to get fitter and shed a few pounds for two months to train for the 85mile and 4000ft+ climb in aid of this fantastic charity.
Orginally from Dundee Stewart has lived in Dumfries for most of the last 20 years and loves the area for its outdoor life, with fantastic cycling on and off road.
Stewart told DGWGO “I love the outdoors and cycling, I am a regular dinghy sailor and race at Annandale sailing club and Solway yacht club. I am not an athlete by any means, and this event is a great way to have a real challenge for myself and a target to get a little fitter and lighter whilst raising funds for a great charity doing something I enjoy. The ride goes through some of the most scenic parts of Scotland starting and finishing in Pitlochry.”
“I chose to support Marie Curie Cancer Care’ as I have seen first hand the difference such organisations make in the care they give to loved ones and make a huge difference to terminally ill peoples palliative care, the benefit of this charity is it helps those in need at the end of their life in a very caring way when families often need it the most.”
