QUEENS GIRLS U13S LEAVE KILMARNOCK FEELING BLUE

On Saturday the U13 Girls hosted Kilmarnock Blues for their first home fixture at the excellent NWCC campus pitch.  Having been knocked out of the league cup by the same team at the beginning of the season , this game was an illustration of how the girls and coaches have had to adapt and modify their formation and tactics to counter the technical ability and physical strength of teams that they play in the performance league every week .  Queens settled quickly into their game, hustling Kilmarnock at every opportunity. Queens opened the scoring after 6 minutes when Eve’s low driven corner was curled into the net by Teri.

With 18 minutes gone, Queens doubled their lead following another corner when Anna and Rebecca dragged the Killie defenders wide to create space for Teri to score an exact replica of her first goal. Two minutes later, Eve made it 3-0 when her shot from a tight angle bounced and bobbled past the keeper.  Kilmarnock, still reeling from the first half onslaught, started the second half ferociously and quickly pulled a goal back.  Queens however were excellent in the second half with some fine saves from Izzy and resolute defending supported by the midfield holding Killie at bay.

FT Queens 3 Kilmarnock 1.

QUEENS GIRLS U9S – Queens U9s Girls had a busy weekend with another fab performance at Threave in the fun fours, meeting Dougie the Doonhamer and playing half time footie at Palmerston. Come on the Blues! A pleasure to watch as always. This coming Saturday they are away to Gretna.  The girls continue to train on a Friday night 5-6.30pm at the Northwest Campus for any 2011s that are interested in coming along.
