WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 21 May 2019 had forward 416 Prime and Cast Sheep.
49 Spring lambs sold to average 218ppk with handy weighted lambs in short supply and these were readily bid for. Topping at £104 for heavyweights from Messrs Watson, High Borgue, top per kilo was 240.5 from Messrs Johnstone & Whitby, Wheatcroft, Castle Douglas.
146 prime hoggs were well bid for if meaty to a top of £101 for heavy Texels from Messrs Veitch, Low Creoch, Gatehouse. Top per kilo was 205.5 for lightweight cheviots from Messrs McMiken, Ernambrie, Castle Douglas.
221 cast sheep were readily bid for with lean fleshed ewes being sharper on the week. Overfat ewes were similar topping today was £110.50 for Texel rams from Ingleston, Castle Douglas. Ewes to £96.50 for Beltex from Torhousekie.

STORE AND OTM CATTLE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited sold 136 Store cattle and 19 OTM cattle at their fortnightly sale on Monday 20th May 2019.
Store cattle were once again good to sell despite being a plainer show throughout. Bullocks topped at £1025 for a pen of Aberdeen Angus crosses shown by R G Armstrong & Co., Langbarns and to 268.4p per kg for a pen of Charolais crosses from D M McQueen & Son, Upper Barr. Heifers sold to £900 for Charolais crosses from Lochside and to 234.4p for Charolais crosses from D M McQueen & Son, Upper Barr. Overall averages levelled at 208.7p for bullocks and 201p for heifers.
19 OTM cattle also met with a strong demand topping at 157p per kg for an AAX cow from Park of Tongland and to £1130.72 for a BBX cow from Trolane. Overage bullocks made to 150p per kg for a Hereford from Auchtralure. Overall average was 139.08p per kg.
