DIVERSION IN PLACE AT St ANN’S BRIDGE SUNDAY 22nd OF JUNE

Blending the old and the new at St Ann’s Bridge
Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will be mixing the old with the new as it improves the road surface on St Ann’s Bridge outside Dumfries.
The South West’s trunk road operator, working with subcontractor DG First will resurface the carriageway approaching the 200-year old structure.
A diversion route, from the Dumfries Bypass via the A709 to Lockerbie and along the B7076 to Beattock (and reverse), will be in place from 07:00 on Sunday 22nd June to 20:00 that evening to allow the work to be carried out as quickly and safely as possible.
Ken Bryden, Scotland TranServ’s Network Area Manager for Dumfries & Galloway said:
“This is an historic structure here in Dumfries and Galloway, dating back to the late 18th century. At one time it was the main route between Dumfries and Edinburgh. The road surface is nearing the end of its operational life and routine resurfacing work will be carried out this weekend (Sunday 22nd June). Across Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland TranServ is investing on behalf of Transport Scotland to improve the quality and safety of our major trunk roads.”
The work will be carried out by Scotland TranServ’s contractor in the area, DG First. The relationship is a first for Scotland and ensures a more localised service to our customers, the motoring public, across Dumfries and Galloway.
Ronnie Dempster, DGFirst’s head of technical services, said:
“We’re delighted to be the contractor working on behalf of TranServ to resurface the road surface on this historic bridge. DGFirst staff have the expertise to deliver the required standard of work on this 200-year-old listed structure. This will be a significant contribution to the quality and safety of a major trunk road in our region.”
The project is among a raft of improvements being carried out across Dumfries and Galloway by Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland.
Russell Rennie, Scotland TranServ’s Contract Director concluded:
“Across the Dumfries and Galloway area, Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland is working in partnership with DG First and are investing to support the economic growth and development of the region. We are pursuing innovative new practices to improve the safety and efficiency of the network and working with a number of organisations to ensure we do this effectively and with the utmost consideration to our environment. We have been busy improving the network to benefit visitors ahead of a busy summer of events, while delivering long-term tangible improvements for local drivers, commuters and freight traffic.”
