Dumfries 1st XI registered a close win, at Irvine, as did the Sunday Development XI. Dumfries U11s and the Women’s team lost out in their games whilst the Dumfries 2nd’s match was cancelled due to rain.

Dumfries win a thriller at Irvine
Irvine, 106 all out, lost to Croma Vigilant Dumfries, 107 for 9
Croma Vigilant Dumfries won their West Division One encounter at Irvine on Saturday, in a match sponsored by JB Houston Butchers, but only just and then thanks to the very last batting pair.
Dumfries won the toss and put Irvine in to bat on a day of changeable weather forecasts when the seconds match was cancelled due to rain. Despite an early LBW to Alan Davidson that decision was not working as opener Singh opened his shoulders and did the bulk of the run scoring.
However the introduction of the spin of Tapiwa Mufudza and Scott Beveridge slowed the scoring considerably. Nevertheless the home side were comfortable at 79 for 1 when skipper Chris McCutcheon got the breakthrough dismissing Singh LBW for 54.
Then Dumfries were able to make mincemeat (see JB Houston) of the rest of the batting order. McCutcheon followed up with two more wickets. Beveridge took a caught and bowled to remove the troublesome number three and also provided a run-out. He took three wickets and Mufudza was rewarded with another caught and bowled as Irvine were all out for 106.
Dumfries then made a bit of a hash of the run chase. This time the spin of Wittstock and a run-out made it 22 for 3. 51 for 3 after 20 overs was better and contributions from Thomas McBride and Alan Davidson seemed to be settling things. However suddenly Dumfries were 87 for 8. Twenty to win.
It required the final three of McCutcheon, and then last pair Declan Brooks and Callum Reynolds-Lewis to eke out an edgy victory with Callum hitting the winning runs.
The win places Dumfries in fourth with the top four each with a single loss. The Player of the Match was Chris McCutcheon for 7 overs 3 wickets for just two runs. The side play Renfrew at home on Saturday.

Dumfries U11s perform well in first Cup match
Dumfries U11s, 68 for 2, lost to Kirkby Stephen U11s, 69 for 3
Dumfries under 11s hosted Kirkby Stephen in their first Cumbria Cup match at Nunholm on Sunday but were beaten by a more experienced side.
In front of a good crowd Captain Billy Morgan lost the toss and Dumfries were sent in to bat. The Kirby Stephen opening bowlers bowled with good pace and accuracy but Dumfries openers Bill Middlemiss and Billy Morgan did well in the first few overs before both were dismissed. Numbers 3 and 4, Munro and Nairn Cubbon, were then able to bat together for all of the remaining overs. That is except for the last ball since Nairn retired for a well played 31 not out. Munro was unbeaten on 25 not out.
With Dumfries getting a total of 68 after their 20 overs they had to bowl well and take their chances if they were to restrict Kirby Stephen. With a tight start from the Dumfries bowlers Sarah Cox, Macey Byers, Bill Middlemiss and Thomas Halliday things looked promising. Cory Dawson bowled one of the opening batsmen and Nairn bowled the other which brought in Kirkby Stephen’s star batsmen Barr who played beautifully and hit the ball to all parts. Despite a further wicket bowled by Jasmine Mcculloch on debut, the consequence of Barr’s score of 31 retired was that was that Kirby Stephen got over the line comfortably for a well deserved victory.
Dumfries wishes them well for their upcoming cup fixtures. Player of the day for Dumfries was Nairn Cubbon for his fine batting display.

Women’s team defeated at RHC
The Women’s team faced a trip up to Edinburgh for their second Premier League match on Sunday for a game against Royal High Corstorphine but were on the wrong end of some strong performances from the home side.
The fortunes did not favour the combined side from Dumfries Cricket Club and Galloway Cricket Club as they lost the toss, were asked to bat first and lost wickets early. The Scotland Eagles players were to the fore for RHC on the day and opening bowler Beal went on to claim three wickets whilst Orla Montgomery top scored for the visitors with 16.
The first change bowling of Scotland squad leg-spinner Farooq, on debut for RHC, stopped a middle order revival with an excellent diving caught and bowled, and followed that with two more wickets. However the visitors did reach the half century before being all out.
Immediate wickets were required in the second innings but only Rosy Ryan was able to achieve that, removing Levenson LBW for 22. Nevertheless the bowlers, Rosy Ryan, Orla Montgomery, Katy Anderson and Niamh Muir bowled well, with good support from the fielders, in the limited overs available before RHC reached their required total.
The side will look to bounce back on Sunday with their next fixture at George Watsons. On the day the Ashleigh Building Player of the Match was Orla Montgomery.
Dumfries Sunday XI win against Langholm
Langholm 2nd XI, 171 for 6, lost to Croma Vigilant Dumfries Sunday XI, 172 for 5
The Dumfries Sunday XI won the battle of The Dumfries and Galloway sides in the Eden Valley Sunday league at the weekend. Another fifty (53 retired) for Adam Malik and 36 not out from Jacob Taylor saw Dumfries home after a lacklustre fielding performance in the first innings.
Langholm were on the attack early with plenty of lusty blows which had the bowling attack in trouble in the early overs. It took a good catch from Tony Reed in the deep to get things going for Dumfries. A combination of good batting and poor fielding saw Langholm set a competitive total of 171 in 36 overs. Donaldson scored 50 not out and Park hit 48. Sean Thornely took 2 wickets again to take his tally to 14 on a Sunday and Aiden Goodin also took 2 to add to his 5 wickets in the previous encounter.
In reply, the Lochfoot Medical Player of the Match, Adam Malik, got his customary fifty retired and Jacob Taylor then guided the side home, but only in the final over, with a match-winning 36 not out. There were also good batting performances from Mat Williams (23) and Max Corbett-Byers (16). Sunday’s victory now has Dumfries sitting in 3rd place behind Stainton and Appleby.
