Free training course for people involved in SCIOs, CICs or any other charitable organisations.
The Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership Scheme is pleased to announce the fourth in their successful 2019 ‘Business Academy’ programme. This programme is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund through the Galloway Glens scheme and by Business Gateway Dumfries and Galloway. It will consist of monthly training events for different sectors of local business, and has so far covered Accommodation Providers, Creative Businesses and Food & Drink Producers. These free events will run throughout 2019 in the Glenkens, Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright. The aim is to improve the sustainability of local businesses in the Galloway Glens area by providing technical training and networking sessions in order to pass on good practice, capitalise on our amazing local heritage and support business development.
This fourth event is called ‘Ensuring the Sustainability of your Third Sector organisation’. It is being held at CatStrand, New Galloway, 5:30 – 7 pm on Thursday 27th June, and has some excellent speakers coming. David Link of Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway will use case studies of successful Social Enterprises to give some top tips, and pitfalls to avoid. Andrew Ward of Creetown Initiative will talk about the benefits and risks of Community Asset Transfer in the light of financial sustainability, as well as some tips on a successful fundraising strategy. John King of Business Gateway will then finish with some tips on good financial governance and business planning. A light buffet will be provided, and there will be time for networking after the formal event finishes. To book on to this free event, email the Galloway Glens Education and Community Engagement Officer, Helen Keron, on [email protected]
Helen Keron said: ‘This month’s Business Academy topic is very close to my heart, as I know how much our local charitable organisations contribute to our communities and our local economy. Achieving financial sustainability in this period of increasing austerity can seem impossible, but our speakers have invaluable experience about how to start making the first steps towards it. Every little helps, and will also boost the likelihood of success of any grant applications, so do come along if you can.’
The next Business Academy events in the pipeline include ‘Using Green credentials to boost your Accommodation business’ on the 5th September, a re-run of the well-received ‘Starting or growing a small food or drink business’ on the 19th September and ‘Using digital strategies to drive footfall to your retail business’ on the 10th October. Look out for details of all these and more on www.gallowayglens.org and Facebook page @GallowayGlens.
