On behalf of Transport Scotland, Scotland TranServ will be carrying out bridge deck refurbishment and resurfacing works on the A75 at Ramhill, near Castle Douglas, Starting on July 15th 2019, During the works, weeknight closures will be implemented between 7pm and 6am and diversions will be in place.
Works will include the removal of the road surface and waterproofing membrane beneath, followed by concrete deck repairs, replacement of the waterproofing system, resurfacing and the installation of bridge deck expansion joints.
The £200k project is scheduled to start in the week beginning 15th July, and will run for approximately 8 weeks, with completion scheduled during the week beginning 9th of September. During this time Scotland TranServ will need to implement lane closures throughout the works and a series of 15 overnight closures with traffic diversions in order to complete works as quickly and safely as possible.
Humza Din, Scotland TranServ’s design lead on the project said:
“We have been working in consultation with the local authority, emergency services and key local stakeholders to carefully programme these works to have minimal impact on commuters and businesses, also reducing disruption where possible to freight traffic.”
To complete the works as quickly and safely as possible it will be necessary to work overnight. Lane closures will be in place throughout the day while the bridge deck is exposed to allow for material curing.
Brian Laurie, Scotland TranServ’s Network Bridges Manager added:
“There are several areas of the concrete bridge deck which require extensive repairs. While undertaking these we will take the opportunity to replace the full bridge deck waterproofing and resurfacing. This is a narrow section of the A75 and in order to protect the health and safety of our workers and the travelling public, it will be necessary to implement lane closures, with an escort system in place to accompany wider loads through the works area.
“This project will deliver long-term improvements to this stretch of the A75 trunk road and assure continued serviceability of the bridge for years to come.”

Specialist traffic modelling contractors are forecasting delays of up to 10 minutes for vehicles to pass through the traffic lights. Overnight, the diversion route is expected to add an addition 15 to 20 minutes onto journeys.
