Community Groups Invited to Come Together to Celebrate Dumfries

A group of young emerging artists are putting a call out to local community organisations to take part in banner and flag making workshops to carry in this year’s procession at the annual Nithraid River Festival. Blueprint100 are looking to work with local groups to create flags and banners to represent their communities which will be carried as part of the Salty Coo procession which kicks off the Nithraid River Festival on Saturday 31st August.

Jordan Chisholm from Blueprint100 and lead artist for the procession commented: ‘We are really excited to be leading this year’s procession, and we want to make it the biggest and best one yet! We are inviting all local community groups and organisations to take part this year, with a chance to unite, walk side by side and be part of one of Scotland’s largest river festivals.’

This year’s Nithraid river race is bigger and better than ever with live music, delicious food, games and activities for all the family to enjoy on the banks of the River Nith at the Mill Green. The Salty Coo procession kicks off the Nithraid activities, leaving the Stove on the High Street at 11.30am and traveling through Dumfries High Street, finishing at the Mill Green at the Nithraid Village. This year, the procession has a ‘community-get-together’ theme, with a focus on celebrating and displaying all the positive things happening in Dumfries. The workshops offer a meeting place for the people of Dumfries to collaborate, try something new and bring ideas together.

If your community or group or organisation would like to take part in the workshops and walk, boogie or travel as part of this year’s procession, please email [email protected] for further information.
