Follow the path of magic and mystery at Drumlanrig Castle

Family looking for something more than just a walk in the park this summer can look no further than Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate.

The Dumfriesshire Estate is giving visitors the chance to take magical, mysterious meanders through the stunning countryside with its summer series of self-guided walks.

With a variety of themes including Pixies and Fairies, Heroes and Villains, I Spy, Magical Encounters, Princes and Princesses and Smurfs, each one offers a healthy stroll around the Estate with clues to follow to keep the kids – and young at heart – fully entertained.

Each of the self-guided walks take in the stunning sights and sounds of the Estate, adding a fun twist to the range of walking and hiking routes that can be enjoyed at any time of the year.

All families have to do is pick up a themed activity sheet from the Castle shop for just 30 pence before setting off on a summer adventure.

Richard Clarke, Countryside Ranger at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: It can be difficult to keep the kids entertained during the summer holidays without breaking the bank, but our self-guided walks put a fun twist on a simple pastime for an activity the whole family can enjoy.
“Our popular walking and hiking routes offer fantastic views all year round, and our themed activity sheets ensure the kids are kept entertained along the way. And, if the Scottish sun decides to shine, families can make a day of it with a self-guided walk, time at the Adventure Playground and a well-earned treat at the Castle Tearoom afterwards.”

Self-guided walks run throughout the summer, until Sunday 18 August. Activity sheets cost 30 pence each, and Estate entry fees apply, at £6 for adults, £4.50 for over-60s, £3.50 for children aged 5-16 whilst under 5s go free. Family passes – for two adults and three children – can be purchased for £16.
