Celebrating Ten years, with Ten Fine Artists

During the height of our ten year anniversary, it seems only fitting that we celebrate with an exhibition featuring ten outstanding fine artists. ‘Ten’ features collections of new and original works from Rosanne Barr, James Fraser, Stewart Lammie, Duncan Macleod RSW, Suzan Malcolm PPAI HPAI, Alison McWhirter, Fiona Millar, Mairi Stewart, Valerie Sadler & Andrew Waddington. The preview opening is from 11am on Saturday 28th June, and the exhibition will then run through to Saturday 29th August. Everyone is welcome to attend the opening, where we will be celebrating with bubbly, and very special birthday cake made by Dotty Designs.
Originally opened in 2004, the gallery has built up a strong reputation as one of the region’s leading spaces for exhibiting fine art and applied art and craft. As well as supporting local and up-and-coming artists, the gallery also shows some of Scotland’s most reputable and sought after painters and craftspeople.
Some of the participating artists for this exhibition have been with the gallery from day one, and others are more recent additions, but we feel that this fine selection of painters collectively represents The Whitehouse Gallery’s style.
There will be a collection of dramatic land and seascapes from Rosanne Barr, who nearly sold out when she last showed a collection in 2013. Rosanne aims to capture mood, emotion, movement and atmosphere in her work, and is influenced by the Scottish landscape and coastline. Scotland’s rugged coastline is also a large inspiration for Duncan Macleod RSW, whose love of the ever-changing pattern, colour and mood of the land, sea and sky are captured beautifully in his extremely popular mixed media work. Landscape paintings of local scenes will also be on show by Stewart Lammie, one of the longest standing regular exhibitors, and a firm favourite with our customers.
Valerie Sadler paints land and seascapes, but is also well known for her animal work and still life paintings, and will be exhibiting a collection of her work to commemorate ten years involvement with the Whitehouse Gallery. Other artists exhibiting their still life works include another long standing exhibitor Suzan Malcolm, who captures the strength and intense colour of the flowers whilst describing their delicate beauty at the same time.
Alison McWhirter also has a passion for the use of colour in her still life paintings, although her style is more contemporary and are intended to evoke a mood. Alison has been making waves in the art world over the past few years, and has been a popular exhibitor with our gallery.
Alison will also be joined by Fiona Millar, James Fraser & Mairi Stewart. Fiona Millar has become the gallery’s most sought after artist over the past few years, with her art-deco style of painting capturing the hearts of so many customers visiting the gallery. Likewise, James Fraser’s unmistakable style has gained him popularity, typically depicting his still-life study with a flattened perspective and giving his work a very contemporary feel. Mairi Stewart also paints still life’s with a flattened perspective, although her use of colour is usually much bolder and more vibrant.
Last but by no means least, Andrew Waddington is giving the gallery some of his original watercolour paintings, which depict wildlife beautifully.
There will also be some fantastic Applied Art & Craft in this exhibition, including unique and quirkly textile animal sculpture by Karen Suzuki, jewellery by designers Sheena McMaster and Susanna Hanl, contemporary handblown glass by Jonathan Rogers, ceramic sculpture by Helen Kemp & Urpu Sellar, furniture by Pete Brown, new textile cushions by Jo Gallant and much more.
