As the new academic year gets underway the University of Glasgow’s School of Interdisciplinary Studies continues to celebrate the University’s 20 years on Crichton campus in Dumfries with an exciting programme of public events.

Crichton Art Exhibition
5.30pm, Thursday 12 September, Rutherford-McCowan Building
An exhibition of digital prints of paintings dating back to the 19th Century, photographs of patients, staff and the Crichton estate launched by Dr Maureen Park. This exhibition will remain on display on weekdays, 10.00am to 4.00pm, until 30 September 2019.

‘In the 100 year life who should we trust?’

20th Anniversary Lecture by Colin Stewart, Managing Director of Citigroup and Head of Citi in Scotland. Tickets: £5. Free to students.
Hunterian Lecture

Photo Exhibition

Opening night of an exhibition of photographs submitted by current and past students of the University of Glasgow celebrating the past, present and future of the Crichton Campus. Exhibition open Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September, 11.00am to 2.00pm.

Wild Campus Bioblitz
10.00am to 5.00pm, Wednesday 2 October, Rutherford-McCowan Building and Campus
A programme of events to explore and celebrate the fantastic setting enjoyed by everyone learning and working in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.
The day will feature a range of activities to help showcase the natural wonders on our doorstep, from bird and small mammal surveys to moth trapping and pond dipping.
In the afternoon, there will be talks from naturalists and conservation organisations from across southern Scotland, and a poster session highlighting the amazing research undertaken by staff and students of the school. Tickets: Free but please reserve.
Scotland and the Arctic: A Conversation
10.00am to 4.30pm, Saturday 19 October, Rutherford-McCowan Building
The time has come for Scotland to re-evaluate its connections to and relationships with the Arctic. The University of Glasgow’s School of Interdisciplinary Studies is to host a one-day conversation which considers Arctic history, representation (visual and literary), storytelling, politics, environmental humanities, environment and ecology.
The day includes a light lunch as well as opportunities to take part in a compelling conversation with creative contributors from around the world. The conversation will end with consideration of the question: Where now for Scotland and the Arctic?

The Solway and Trans-Atlantic Slavery
7.00pm, Tuesday 22 October, Dumfries and Galloway Multi-Cultural Association, 68 Friars Vennel, Dumfries
Join us for this fascinating talk by University of Glasgow historian Dr Lizanne Henderson where you will learn about the Solway’s links to the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
Christmas Concert
