‘IN OUR TOWN’ PREVIEW GIVES CROWDS A TASTE FOR MORE FREE FUN & ENTERTAINMENT

1 a 1 a in our town 3In Our Town, a programme of free family-orientated activities in Dumfries over the summer, kick-off at the weekend with more laughter and thrills on the High Street.
Last weekend’s preview had the crowds in uproar when acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe street entertainer Todd Various brought his quirky circus-style tricks into the town centre.
And the climbing wall on Sunday proved a big hit with the kids.
Co-organiser of In Our Town, John Dinning, said: “The wall was a huge success all day long. The town wasn’t busy but we always were.
“Lots of children, mostly in the 7-12 age range, a good number of teenagers and a handful of adults had a go.
“Many of the children came back for more, and some of the teenagers went away and got friends and came back again and again.
“All were asking for more activities like this, they were pleased and excited that the wall was coming back and delighted to hear that a zipwire is coming to town.” 1 a 1 a in our town 4
The climbing wall returns to the High Street on 10 August.
Taking place between July 18 and September 14, and funded by the council, In Our Town is a lively programme of events geared towards bringing footfall into the town centre, providing entertainment for shoppers and retailers and benefitting businesses.
The programme includes circus performances, climbing walls, hot air balloons, zipwire, workshops and music, as well as some great star attractions, all taking place at the Plainstanes next to the Midsteeple; Dock Park; and The Whitesands.
This Saturday J-P Koala, a street entertainer from the acclaimed Let’s Circus, will entertain the High Street crowds with his show at 1pm and 3pm.
