Arts Live was established in 2016 to extend the work of the highly successful Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival. Its aim is to provide a year-round programme of performing arts (drama, dance, music and comedy) across the region.
Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival have just announced the launch of their fourth annual Arts Live programme to tour Dumfries & Galloway. The programme brings high quality, affordable performing arts opportunities to communities across the region.
This year’s programme has something for everyone, from an exquisite and emotive new dance production choreographed by the acclaimed contemporary dance duo Errol White & Davina Givan; to Paper Moon which is a delightful and memorable adventure show for families where Poppy must save the MoonMoo!; to Wild as The White Waves, a show about the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, a witty and moving encounter with a remarkable woman who resonates as powerfully today as she did in her own lifetime.
The programme extends from Whithorn to Moniaive, and Dumfries to Loch Arthur. It aims to bring performances into new and exciting spaces to make performances accessible for a whole host of new audiences. People in D&G now have opportunities for relevant, meaningful arts experiences, from spectacular large-scale events to shows in small village halls that are tailored to that specific local audience.
The Arts Live team are planning to add more events to this year’s programme and want to hear from local performing artists, venue managers or community groups wishing to stage performances between March and July 2020 and who would like to apply for support through the Festival’s Support for Ambition scheme which takes the financial risk out of staging performances.
With some very exciting shows already programmed for the beginning of the Spring/Summer 2020 Arts Live line-up and the Festival programme release due in March, it looks like Dumfries and Galloway is set to have a very exciting year of performing arts.
