Advance warning of A75 Closure For Terraughtie and Barr Farm Resurfacing

On behalf of Transport Scotland, Scotland TranServ is delivering a programme of road surface improvements to the A75 at Terraughtie and Barr Farm, west of Dumfries. The resurfacing of the trunk road between Terraughtie and the Glen will be carried out under a weekend closure, with a further overnight closure also required. The A75 Barr Farm to Merkland resurfacing project will follow under a programme of overnight convoy traffic management.

Jonny Dyer, Scotland TranServ’s Assistant Network Design Engineer said:

“This essential programme of work will deliver road surface improvements to nearly a kilometre (948m) of the A75 trunk road outside Dumfries. We have been working closely with the local authority, emergency services and key stakeholders to carefully programme this £170k project to cause minimal disruption to the local community, commuters and the businesses using this busy route each day.
“During 2019, on behalf of Transport Scotland, our teams delivered more than £5.7Million of investment into the A75. Scotland TranServ’s improvement programme is already continuing in the new year, with further works in the pipeline. We empathise with local communities affected by this short-term impact, and thank them for their patience while we deliver these long-term improvements to the trunk road network.”

In order to deliver the A75 Terraughtie resurfacing programme as quickly and safely as possible, the following traffic management is necessary:

  • Weekend closure of the A75 between Garroch Roundabout and Drummore Roundabout from 7pm on Friday 21st to 6am on Monday 24th February
  • Overnight closure of the A75 between Garroch Roundabout and Drummore Roundabout from 7pm on Monday 24th until 6am on Tuesday 25th February

A significant diversion will be in place, and drivers are therefore advised to allow plenty of extra time for their journeys. Special arrangements have been made for emergency service vehicles, however no additional measures have been implemented for windfarm and other wide vehicle movements.

Following the A75 Terraughtie resurfacing scheme, Scotland TranServ will resurface 350m of the A75 between Barr Farm and Merkland, west of the Drummore Roundabout.

The £120k road surface improvement project will be delivered under a series of overnight convoy and daytime temporary traffic lights with road markings and high friction surfacing to be completed on weekdays.

Traffic management will therefore be implemented during the following times:

  • 7pm to 6am each overnight, convoy system between Tuesday 25th and Saturday 29th February (concluding at 6am on Saturday 29th).
  • 6am to 7pm each day, temporary traffic lights between Tuesday 25th and Friday 28th

Lewis Dorans, Scotland TranServ’s project design lead said:

“The trunk road is sufficiently wide in this section of the trunk road to allow us to safely implement a convoy system. By working overnight, we can minimise the impact on commuters and businesses using this route each day. This is an important programme of road surface improvements, which we will deliver as quickly and safely as possible, for the long-term benefit of the local community.”

Drivers are advised to allow some extra time for their journeys while these road surface improvements are delivered. Live trunk road updates are available by visiting trafficscotland.org, or following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
