Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Friday 7th February 2020 held the 55th Premier Show & Sale of Luing Cattle. Buyers were to the fore from Shetland in the north to Devon in the south which resulted in a wonderful trade throughout.
At the pre-sale show of heifers the judge Mr Alan Cowan, Philiphaugh Estate, Selkirk awarded the champion pair in-calf heifers to R McNee Ltd, Benhar which went onto sell for 2,500gns to Messrs Brown, North Bradley, reserve went to J S Murray, Rockcliffe for a pair of two year olds.
Bulling heifers were won by Messrs Barr, Milkieston for a lovely pair of roan heifers selling for 2,400gns to Backmuir. Reserve was a pair from N Graham & son, Craigdarroch selling for 2,600gns to Messrs A C Burke, nether Stewarton, Eddleston.
Bulls were again a sound trade with the sale leader lot 166 Nunnerie Xenon from Alistair and David MacArthur fetching a new breed record of 25,000gns and selling to Messrs Renwick & Sons, Craig Douglas, Peebles, next up was lot 149 Benhar Xerox from R McNee Ltd fetching 14,000gns selling to Backmuir Trading Ltd, Backmuir Farm then at 10,000gns was lot 160 Finlarg Xplosion from Robert McNee Ltd selling to Kedzlie Farm Ltd.
