Nith Inshore Rescue is delighted to announce a grant award of £15,000 from the Robin Rigg Community Fund administered through the Solway Firth Partnership this follows last week’s announcement of a significant Department of Transport grant of just over £69,000 towards the Nith Inshore Rescue’s £85,000 project to replace and enhance their specialist lifeboat equipment to bring the total raised in the past two weeks to just under Nith Rescue’s £85,000 target.
Robbie Cowan, Chairman of Nith Inshore Rescue said: ”It is fantastic news that we have secured £15,000 from the Robin Rigg community Fund on top £69,000 from the DfT Rescue Boat Grant Fund to reach our capital fundraising target for this vital project. The funds will enable us to replace ageing equipment which has served us so well over the past 10 to 20 years. This investment will both enhance our capabilities and reduce the risk of our emergency service being interrupted by unplanned and costly maintenance, this in turn ensures that every penny of the vital ongoing donations we receive can be used for our annual running costs”.
Cowan added: “Nith Inshore Rescue continues to depend on the support of local people, businesses, and organisations. To run this independent rescue service, maintain equipment, pay insurance, fuel, pagers and train volunteers to the stringent requirements of the MCA (with no paid staff) costs us circa £30,000 per year. Nith Inshore Rescue would like to take this opportunity to thanks all our local supporters who help us with our year on year operational costs without whom we could not provide our lifesaving service”.
Kerry McCole, RWE Robin Rigg Plant Manager said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Nith Inshore Rescue’s capital renewal programme. The charity provides an important service in the inner Solway area and beyond and we are pleased to be part of ensuring they will be able to maintain this service in the future.”
