A project for older people in Creetown is calling out for Wigtownshire residents to vote for them in an upcoming funding round.
Your Community, Your Money, You Decide! is a fund from Dumfries and Galloway Council which lets residents vote for projects in their local area to receive funding. Voting can be done in person or online, making it easy for everyone to have their say.
“We’re really hoping people come along to Douglas Ewart High School on 7th March to hear about the different projects in line for funding and hopefully cast a vote for us,” said Dianne White, one of Ferry Friends’ project workers.
Her colleague, Angie Bradford, added, “Our application is all about wellbeing. We have five activities planned that cover cooking on a budget, exercising at home, claiming benefits, fuel comparison sites and upcycling.”
Ferry Friends will work with Station House Cookery School in Kirkcudbright, Yoga Shona, Citizens Advice Scotland and Creetown’s Knitter and Natter group to deliver the sessions.
The project has been up and running since the end of 2018 and now has over 100 members who can come to as many events as they like. As well as bringing people together for social gatherings there are opportunities to meet local organisations like the fire service and police for advice and information.
