All over the country, by staying at home due to lockdown (and, if you’re a farmer, lambing, calving or sowing!), and isolation, many people will be missing a regular trip to the hairdresser. But never fear, you can now have a haircut and raise money for charity at the same time!
Scene & Herd, the team behind the OnFARM podcast and regular supporters of Scottish charities RHET and RSABI, have launched the Shear Isolation Lockdown Haircut Challenge to raise money for both charities as well as the national charity Trussell Trust.
Simply use your scissors, clippers, shears (or whatever you have!) to shave that hair, trim your fringe, tidy up the kids’ hair, get rid of that beard or clip your pets – all for charity!
Video the process, post to social media using the hashtag #shearisolation, nominate three friends to do the same and then donate a minimum of £3 to one of the three charities on the Just Giving link below. It’s as simple as that!

“After a number of Zoom video calls lately, I’ve noticed that there were a few people, my husband included, who were in need of a trip to the hairdresser! So, remembering the Ice Bucket Challenge of a few years ago, I had the idea that people could get a haircut and raise money for good causes at the same time. Thankfully, my husband was happy to be volunteer number one and allowed me to shave his hair off – all for a good cause
.
“The video is now online, and we encourage people all over Scotland to get involved too. There is no need to wait to be nominated – start your own chain and get shearing now! You can be as inventive as you like! Just remember to make a charity donation and to use the hashtag #shearisolation whenever you post to social media.
“This is not just a challenge for men – ladies can trim their fringe, cut the kids’ hair, give the dog a haircut or even go the whole hogg if they are brave enough!
“All three of these charities are playing a key part during lockdown – RHET have been providing amazing resources to help homeschooling parents, RSABI are continuing a range of support services, particularly with regard to isolation or financial hardship and The Trussell Trust are providing food banks nationwide.
