A painting of Colonel Tom Moore was delivered to the entrance of DGRI on Thursday help mark the NHS fund-raiser’s 100th birthday.
Talented local artist Mark Bellingham captured Tom in his famous thumbs-up pose, accompanied by the message ‘NHS Thank You’ against a rainbow backdrop.
Tom, from Bedfordshire, has raised almost £30 million for the NHS as it works to meet the challenge of the coronavirus, capturing the nation’s imagination with his bid to complete 100 25 metre laps at his house ahead of his hundredth birthday. He then followed that up with a number one single cover version of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
Promoted to the honorary rank of Colonel, Tom saw his 100th birthday marked by a Spitfire fly-past.
