Hot off the release of their latest album Live Across Scotland, multi-award-winning Scottish band Skerryvore will perform their first live performance in over 6 months. Entitled ‘Live Across the World’, the socially distanced performance will take place at Glasgow’s Clydeside Distillery on Saturday 5th September and will be live streamed to a global audience.
The show will be available to watch live, with ticketing details available at skerryvore.com. There will be no fixed cost per view, with fans invited to ‘pay what you want’ for their ticket as well as access to exclusive merchandise and content.
Skerryvore are world-renowned for their energetic live performances and it was the enthusiasm of their fans to watch them perform live, with so many having missed out on seeing them play gigs and festivals this summer, that led the band to investigate the possibility of a live streamed event.
Not only will a live gig be available to viewers, but the band have also teamed up with the Clydeside to offer a virtual tour of the distillery, with Skerryvore’s own Daniel and Martin Gillespie walking fans through the tour and venue manager Alistair MacDonald offering his whisky expertise while sharing the rich history of the location.
Red Hot Chilli Pipers founder and whisky connoisseur Stuart Cassells will be hosting the ‘Skerryvore: Live Across the World’ from The Tasting Room of the distillery where he will do a Live Q&A with the band, taking questions from fans online and digging deeper into the pre and post-gig rituals of the prolific eight-piece band as well as hearing what they’ve been up to during lockdown.
Daniel Gillespie, Founding member and Managing Director for Skerryvore, said: “This has been a really tough time for so many people, not least those who financially rely on the creative and entertainment industry. I look around and so many people in our sector are trying to find a way to continue to deliver high quality musical performances while trying to sustain some kind of living from the sector.
“Our number one priority will always be our fans and that is why we wanted to ensure our first live entertainment offering in over 6 months was the best it could possibly be with not only a live gig but also a virtual tour of this exciting new distillery, along with a live Q&A with the band and exclusive merchandise. It’s been a real challenge putting it all together as it’s so different than any other gig we have done before, both musically and logistically, but we are so excited about the final product and we can’t wait to hear the feedback and see how it is received on Saturday 5th September.”
Skerryvore was formed by brothers Daniel Gillespie (accordion) and Martin Gillespie (pipes, whistles and accordion) on the Scottish island of Tiree. The line-up now also includes Fraser West (drums), Alec Dalglish (guitar and vocals), Craig Espie (fiddle) and Jodie Bremaneson (bass), Scott Wood (pipes and whistles) and Alan Scobie (keyboards).
Together they mix Scottish west coast ceilidh music with pop, folk and country influences to create their own high-energy brand of contemporary Scottish traditional music.
Over the last 15 years the band has performed in more than 25 countries worldwide including across the UK, Europe, USA, Canada and Australia.
