DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY TO CELEBRATE LOCAL COMMONWEALTH GAMES SUCCESS

Glasgow 2014 – Celebrating Local Successes and Contributions

Dumfries and Galloway Council will be organising an official event to recognise the successes and contributions from all those who were involved in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games from our region. We need your help to make this happen. Whether you were taking part in the games as an athlete, coach, official or volunteer, we want to hear from you.

A standout success for Dumfries and Galloway was swimming coach Ben Higson who was on secondment from our Council to Scottish Swimming. Ben was coach to swimmer Ross Murdoch, who beat fellow Scot and hot favourite Michael Jamieson in the men’s 200m breast-stroke final on the first day of the games to win Gold.

One of the main success stories of the entire games was the fantastic Clydesiders and other volunteers.
Council Leader Ronnie Nicholson said; “We were delighted that so many people from Dumfries and Galloway put their name forward to volunteer at the games. The volunteers made a huge contribution to the overwhelming success of the Commonwealth Games and it is important we recognise this contribution and that of all the others involved whether it is through contribution or achievement.”

Dumfries and Galloway Council now need anyone who was involved in the Glasgow 2014 Games to get in contact with us. Whether as an athlete, coach, official, Clydesider or other type of volunteer including ceremony cast, please get in touch. For further information and details Please e-mail [email protected] or call 030 33 33 3000 and ask for Calum Graham.
