The Solway Sharks, sponsored by Building Craftsmen (Dumfries), are delighted to announce the return of two more of last year’s treble winning team for the season ahead. Ross Murray and Steven Moore will be back in Sharks colours once again as the new squad starts to take shape.
Both players were key members of last season’s team and were usually seen playing on the same line and were also trusted on the penalty kill whenever he team needed them. They are both players who are very popular with the clubs supporters and their work rate and commitment is something that stands out every time they hit the ice.
Head Coach Martin Grubb was delighted to be able to welcome the pair back “Both players are players who add a great deal to our team and are good both on and off the ice. They are two off the best penalty killers in the NIHL and I think our PK success rate will show that. They have played together for the past few seasons and they have good chemistry which is a huge asset for us when looking at line combinations. Steven is a smooth skater with good speed and good hands and he has scored some important goals for us and can always be relied upon to do a job in any situation and again this year I will be looking for a good points production and for his usual high work rate. Ross is a player who likes to go to the net and do all the little things that makes a team successful. He is happy sticking up for his team mates but he can also score goals and is good on the PK. He has always done a good job for us and he will be expected to raise his game in term of points and play to his strengths so that teams do not like playing against him”.
Both players were more than happy to commit to another season in Dumfries and Steven commented “I always wanted to come back and continue playing here as it is a good place to play. We have a good core of players and with a few additions we will be looking to build on last season’s success. I am personally looking forward to putting up a few more numbers as well as continuing to play my role on special teams as Martin makes sure I know I am vital to our team in this area”. Ross said I am happy to be back playing for my home town team once more and I am excited about the season ahead. Teams will want to take our titles away but we are a close group and we are determined to retain the trophies we won. I have been working hard over the summer to bulk up and ensure I am continuing to play my role for the team and want to keep popping up with important points”.
The Sharks squad is starting to take shape and more announcements will be made in the coming days.
Steven will wear number 75 and Ross number 90 as they did last season and both will be in action in the Sharks pre-season camp this coming weekend 23/24 August and in a pre-season friendly on Saturday the 30th against North Ayrshire Wild before the Braehead Clan come to town on September 3rd.
