The installation of a new power socket in the centre of the village means the community tree can be decorated with Christmas lights for the first time.
The Corsock Village Christmas Tree, located at the A712/Moniaive road junction, has previously only enjoyed limited decoration due to the lack of a power socket on the site, preventing the use of Christmas lights.
Thanks to the efforts of Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN), supported by the contribution of local electrician Jeremy McDowell, a new power socket has been installed at the site. This has allowed a tree and mains powered lighting array to be put up for the first time.
The Tree is installed each year by the volunteers in the village, led by Tom Corsan. Admiring this year’s tree with lights in operation, Tom said:
“We have tried Solar and battery powered lights but they never lasted that long. Having a power point means we can use better quality lights”
Mrs Aileen Rourke, the SPEnergynetworks Dumfries District Manager, added:
“It has been a pleasure to work with the volunteers from Corsock to bring some illuminations to the village Christmas tree for the first time. We hope that the electrical supply installed will be used for many years to come.”
This year’s tree, in keeping with recent tradition, has been kindly donated by Jane Ingall from Corsock House.
This year’s tree and decoration has been very well received by everyone in the area, with thanks given to all involved.
