Fiona McElrea, Owner Director at Whithorn Pharmacy and at Welcome Pharmacies in Wigtown and Newton Stewart, has won the the Community Pharmacist of the Year 2020, award.
Keith McElrea Co-Owner Director told DGWGO “To win the award, you must be nominated by a third party and your nomination has to be approved by the local NHS Director of Pharmacy.
For years Fiona has worked very closely with various health board teams in D&G to trial and develop new programmes and initiatives, aimed at improving pharmaceutical care and patient access to that pharmaceutical care. This has included being a pilot site for NHS Near Me, an online videoconference service which allows remote and infirm patients who struggle to get to a pharmacy, to dial in and talk direct with the Pharmacist. She is a Pharmacy Champion for the West of the region, advising and assisting with the roll out of NHS services across all community pharmacies and representing those pharmacies at senior NHS pharmacy meetings.
This is the highest honour a community pharmacist can receive at the awards other than the Lifetime Achievement Award. Fiona, and the whole team are very proud and delighted, as are our many customers who have been raining congratulations on us since the news broke.
Fiona always goes above and beyond with patient care and it’s lovely to see this dedication recognised, and lovely for our customers too, who have wholeheartedly congratulated her.”
