STORE CATTLE & OTM CATTLE
A good show of proper store cattle met the dearest trade for many years. With over 200 more cattle sold than the corresponding sale last year averages were outstanding with 600 steers averaging 259ppk and 267 heifers 252ppk and an overall average of 256.76ppk.
New and distant buyers made the journey to Castle Douglas and were not disappointed. Charolais steers sold to 362.1ppk from Messrs Davidson, Poldean and bought by a new buyer from Yorkshire. Heifers from the same home sold to 324.9ppk. Top per head was £1460 for an Angus bullock from Mid Farthingwell and £1350 for Charolais heifers from Shangan.
OTMs met a fantastic trade to average a marvellous 169.3ppk and were short of buyer’s requirements.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 13 April 2021 had forward 544 prime and cast sheep.
390 prime hoggs were forward to average 300.08 (SQQ 300.30).
All classes of hoggs were again a flyer topping at £158.50 and 360.2ppk for Beltex from Messrs Heuchan, Townhead of Greenlaw. Heavyweights sold to £155.50 from Messrs Kerr, Denty.
Cast sheep were forward in similar number topping at £185 for a Texel ram from Low Arkland and ewes to £173 for a Texel from Orchardton Mains.
