Queen Of The South Captain Stephen Dobbie has announced that Friday’s game against Dundee will be the last time he makes an appearance in a Queens shirt. In an emotional announcement, the inspirational and role model gave the Palmerston based club Heartfelt Thanks.
Stephen Said “It’s with a heavy heart that I’m announcing that my time at Queens has come to an end and that this Friday will sadly be my last appearance in a Queens shirt.
What an amazing time I’ve had. I have loved every minute of my seven and a half years. I made my debut against Dundee so it’s fitting my last appearance will be against them. My first ever goal for the club came against Dundee so fingers crossed history will repeat itself and my last will be too when we play them on Friday night.
There have been many highlights during my time. My statue at the arena, being inducted into the Queens Hall of Fame, becoming the club’s second top ever goalscorer and beating the record for most goals in a season to name a few!
But the biggest honor for me has to be becoming the club captain – pulling on the jersey and the armband and leading my team out was very much one of my career highlights.
I hope I’ve put a smile on all the fans faces and brought joy with the way I play the game.
Thanks to the Chairman, Billy and Directors Mark and Craig for their support. Thanks also to the Managers, players and coaches and especially to Gavin and Ross the physios – they have kept me feeling young!!!
Thanks to all the staff and volunteers behind the scenes, there’s too many to name…I will miss you all very much.
Queens isn’t just another football club to me – I’ve become a supporter myself. The way in which the club and the fans have embraced me and my family will always hold a special place in my heart.
Most of all .. thank you to the fans. I will miss hearing your songs and your cheers whenever I put the ball in the back of net for you!!!!
All the best for the future and I’ll be back at Palmy when I can.
Thanks, Stephen”
The Club replied “Following the news that club captain Stephen Dobbie will be leaving us after the game on Friday we would like to place on record our heartfelt thanks.
During his time with us he has certainly written himself into the history books.
With a record breaking 43 goals in one season he became our second top goal-scorer, scoring 166 times (so far). He was also part of the 2008 squad that reached the Scottish Cup Final. Off the park he is one of three players who have a statue outside the ground and was inducted into the clubs Hall of Fame. These are just a small number of things that he has achieved during his time.
Stephen is an inspiration and role model to any footballer, his commitment to the club both on and off park has been exceptional.
He along with Susanne, Jack and Maxwell, and Stephen’s extended family and friends will be a big miss around the club on match days.
Friday will be an emotional day for many and it’s regretful that there will not be a crowd in the stadium to give Stephen the send off he deserves. But we are sure every Queens fan will join us in wishing Stephen all the best.
From everyone at the club – Thank You “
