A local charity which supports refugees here and abroad is looking for a new home.
Massive Outpouring of Love (known as MOOL) needs to leave its current base in Dumfries by August 2021, but has so far been unable to find suitable alternative premises it can afford.
Since 2015 MOOL has collected tons of clothing, blankets, and other equipment for shipping to locations across the world – France, Greece and further afield – where refugees are camped in terrible conditions with little or no support from official bodies. Boxes of supplies often contain messages of support and encouragement for recipients written by volunteers and children.
MOOL has always supported local people as well as refugees, and worked to build good relations between established residents and those coming into the region. Donated furniture and household items have gone to anyone who needs them.
MOOL urgently needs a space to store and process donations with, if possible, a small office area. Access for occasional visits from lorries to load our boxes for shipment is required. The premises must be accessible for the disabled and be sited within the Dumfries area to facilitate contact with volunteers, donors, and refugee families. Financially MOOL relies entirely on public donations but would be able to meet moderate rental costs.
David Formstone, Chair of MOOL commented: “The issue of refugees has largely gone out of the news due to Brexit and the pandemic. However, many thousands of refugees continue to camp in appalling conditions for months or years. MOOL has always benefited from the amazing generosity of the people in this region. But in order to carry on our work we now need to find a home for ourselves”.
MOOL is keen to hear from any person or organisation who might be able to offer sole or shared use of a building – or knows someone who could. Please contact MOOL directly via email at [email protected] or by phoning 0750 4859038.
