Avanti West Coast and Network Rail, are teaming up today (June 17) to attempt to break a 36 year old record for the fastest journey for the 401 mile trip from London to Glasgow.
The intercity operator’s iconic Pendolino set No. 390044 will depart London Euston at 10.36am today for a non-stop journey to Glasgow Central, aiming to beat the current record of 3 hours 52 minutes and 40 seconds.
The record was last set back in 1984 at 3hrs 52mins by the famous tilting train (APT) which was renowned for making passengers feel sick.
