Events for People with Sight, Hearing and Dual Sensory Loss
The See Hear project is to host two information events across Dumfries & Galloway, giving local people living with sight, hearing and dual sensory loss the opportunity to find out 
about the range of services and support available to them across the region.
See Hear, a partnership between Visibility and National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS), has been funded by the Scottish Government to establish a sensory impairment project across the region.
In addition to finding out about the innovative See Hear project from friendly staff and volunteers on hand at the events, visitors will be able to meet with organisations from both the voluntary and statutory sectors that have services available to people living with sensory loss in Dumfries & Galloway.
Exhibitors include Guide Dogs, DeafBlind Scotland, Hard of Hearing Group, Dumfries Carers Centre, Care Aware and the Macular Society. Technology providers Humanware will have a stall to showcase the latest aids and equipment, while NHS 24 will be on hand to highlight their new BSL interpreting service for signers across the region.
Lindsay McDowall, service manager of the project, said: “We’re expecting a mix of people living with sight, hearing or dual sensory loss, their carers, family and professionals to pop in on the day. And we’d welcome anyone interested in volunteering to come along and have a chat with us.
“There will be an opportunity for everyone to browse the information stands; try equipment and technology and talk to local services. There will be sign language interpreters, sighted guides and a loop system available to support people attending.
“Local teams from NHS Dumfries & Galloway and Social Work Sensory Support Services will also be on hand to answer any questions and give advice on the type of services and assistance that is on offer across the region to people living with sensory loss. There is something for everyone at these events.”

Wednesday, 3rd September, between 1.00pm – 3.00pm
St George’s Church Hall, George Street
Stranraer:
Thursday. 4th September, between 1:00pm – 3:00pm
High Kirk, Leswalt High Road
