The Dumfries sides were a handful of runs short of their respective targets on Saturday. Your Move Dumfries lost by nine runs as they chased a total of 138 all out on a variable pitch at Langside.
Opposition Captain, Zia, made the difference with 49 and five wickets. The spinners also made an impact for Dumfries with Chris Brockwell taking three wickets and Robert McBride two, as did Alan Davidson and Tommy McGrath. However the Dumfries run chase subsided when top scorer McBride, with 36, was dismissed and with twenty five still needed.
The seconds, Nunholm, competed well in a higher scoring game at home against Langside seconds. Mat Williams and Ronan Dunbar, both with scores in the 60s, dictated their chase of a total of 260 for 7. Dunbar batted well, not out with 63, and Sean Thornely was also 21 not out as the Nunholm side finished on 250 for 5. Andy Reed contributed 38, and in the first innings both Sean, and Hyder Hussain claimed two wickets.
The Dumfries juniors fared better with four wins out of four as the under-11s, under-15s, and under-13s all won, the latter team twice. The under-11s completed their scheduled league fixtures on Sunday with a 48 run win in an enjoyable sunny game against visitors Caldbeck with boundaries from Angus Middlemiss, final pair runs from Cory Dawson and Lachlan Osmond, and wickets for Angus and Sarah Cox. Great player development and team unity across all the group sees the side looking forward to their Cup semi-final on Sunday.
Another good all-round team performance brought the under-15s a seven wicket win at Lanercost on Monday. Aiden Goodin top scored with 27, followed by Max Corbett- Byers with 23, and Oliver Barnard snared 3 wickets on debut as five other bowlers each took a wicket in the home side’s score of 98 for 8.
Dumfries under-13s managed to squeeze in two wins, a 59 run success at Stainton and an 8 wicket victory at Penrith. Billy Morgan and Nairn and Munro Cubbon were the impressive run scorers in 133 for 5 at Stainton, then Cory Dawson halted the response with two wickets and Jacob Holden’s all-round contribution, including his two wickets, earned him the James Hallam Insurance Player of the Match. At Penrith it was the bowlers that set the game with Cory, Jacob, and Jasmine McCulloch starting with a wicket each and then Bethan Cubbon with four wickets, and Avi Chaturvedi with one, led to Penrith 50 all out. Nairn Cubbon did the business with the bat with a rapid innings of 32 retired.
Scotland Cricket: Max Corbett-Byers received his first Scotland call-up this week, for the Scotland under-15s 50-over games at Nunholm scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday against Northumberland and then Durham u15s, after the Scotland u15 side competed well against against Yorkshire in their high scoring game at Dumfries last week. Orla Montgomery and Niamh Muir, also on her Scotland debut, were part of three wins out of four for Scotland u17s girls against Yorkshire last week and Chris McBride hit 106 not out for Scotland A against Lancashire A on Tuesday in a match unfortunately then abandoned due to rain.
