South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth has praised the work of Cycling Dumfries in highlighting the role cycling can play in combating climate change.
The local MSP joined cyclists at Abington on Friday to help send the group off on the final leg of their Pedal on COP ride from Dumfries to Glasgow. A number of keen cyclists from the group were making the ride over two days to take their message to world leaders and local politicians.
Colin Smyth said: “It was great to be able to see the group on the final leg of their cycle from Dumfries to Glasgow.
“Cycling Dumfries does a fantastic job locally in raising awareness of the benefits of cycling, both for our health and for the environment.
“Our region has a long history of cycling and it has an important role to play in helping to combat climate change.
“Many short journeys day to day could easily be carried out by cycling and it’s important that groups such as Cycling Dumfries are there to help remind us of how important cycling can be.”
